Alzheimer\u2019s disease (AD) is the most frequent form of dementia, followed by vascular dementia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Care for people with Alzheimer\u2019s disease or other dementias should be based on up-to-date clinical practice guidelines. The education and training of nurses and other healthcare staff in dementia is a key factor in providing quality care. Knowledge of Alzheimer\u2019s disease can be measured through questionnaires such as the\u00a0 UJA Alzheimer\u2019s Care Scale, recently developed and validated by Dr. Laura Parra and other members of our research team. (<a href=\"https:\/\/cuidsalud.com\/en\/inv\/knowledge-alzheimer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">project<\/a>). <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The study was a cross-sectional survey undertaken in three stages:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">development of the questionnaire and item wording<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">content validation by an expert panel<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">questionnaire testing with two samples to establish psychometric properties (one sample comprised Registered Nurses, Assistant Nurses and eldercare workers from nursing homes, and other sample comprised nursing students)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The data were analysed through item analysis and a Rasch model. Convergent and construct validity and internal consistency were also examined, and the initial validation study obtained good psychometric properties concerning validity and reliability.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Results indicate that the UJA Alzheimer\u2019s Care scale, with 23 items,\u00a0 is a useful tool for measuring knowledge of Alzheimer\u2019s disease and dementia care among nursing professionals or nursing students.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The full text is available at: Parra-Anguita L, S\u00e1nchez-Garc\u00eda I, del Pino-Casado R, Pancorbo-Hidalgo PL.<a href=\"https:\/\/bmcgeriatr.biomedcentral.com\/articles\/10.1186\/s12877-019-1086-2\"> Measuring knowledge of Alzheimer\u2019s: development and psychometric testing of the UJA Alzheimer\u2019s Care Scale<\/a>.
