A range of factors that can delay the healing process have been described:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Persistent inflammatory status<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The imbalance between proteases and protease inhibitors in the wound bed<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Bacterial colonization and biofilm<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Reactive oxygen species (ROS) and oxidative stress.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">When ROS is not adequately managed the oxidative stress can delay the wound healing. So the reduction of ROS in bed wound enhance the reactivation of the healing process in wounds that are stalled in the inflammatory phase.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The CuiDsalud research group in collaboration with Histocell is developing <a href=\"https:\/\/cuidsalud.com\/en\/inv\/study-reox\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the REOX study<\/a> to compare the effect of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.histocell.com\/en\/our-work\/medical-devices-cosmetics\/reoxcare\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">an antioxidant dressing (Reoxcare<\/a>) on the healing of chronic wounds against the use of dressings that create a moist environment (as standard clinical practice) in patients with hard-to-heal wounds. This research project began in 2018 and is being carried as a doctoral thesis by In\u00e9s Mar\u00eda Comino Sanz.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Currently, the project is in the phase of recruiting patients in the different health centres of the Andalusian Health Service (Spain).
