Leading Nursing Education: Colombian Researcher-PhD Isabel Patricia Gómez Palencia Analyzes Artificial Intelligence and Technological Integration at UJA.

In an evolving healthcare and academic landscape shaped by generative Artificial Intelligence and digital tools, nursing education requires updated teaching strategies to foster clinical reasoning and high-quality care. Successful technology adoption depends on integrating pedagogical strategies with core nursing content through the TPACK framework (Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge), directly contributing to Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education).

Dr. Isabel Patricia Gómez Palencia from the University of Cartagena (Colombia) completed postdoctoral research stay at the Department of Nursing of the University of Jaen (UJA), hosted by the CuiDsalud research group and mentored by Dr. Carmen Álvarez Nieto and Dr. Isabel M. ª López Medina under an AUIP mobility grant. The project mapped the nursing curriculum, evaluated faculty digital competence using a validated TPACK survey and involved classroom observation in clinical simulation.

The research resulted in a pilot Virtual Reality (VR) clinical simulation blueprint for complex chronic patient care, alongside a tailored faculty development plan on Educational Technologies and AI. Presented during a knowledge-transfer workshop with UJA faculty, this international partnership strengthens academic networks and joint research lines between Jaen University (Spain) and Cartagena University (Colombia).
